Civilizing the Internet of Things (IoT)

A Harvard lecture worth listening to

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CmBMZLoH7w&feature=push-fr&attr_tag=VZunqW93Xxq9EQeX%3A6

For those of you who cannot access YouTube, here is a brief summary or what I got out of this lecture:

1.We are surrounded in everyday living by a host of camera, sensors, input/output devices called the IoT that are supposed to improve the quality of our lives.

2. Just like the Industrial Revolution introduced monumental changes in our social, ethical, and economic lives beyond our imagination, IoT will produce similar intended as well as unintended consequences.

3. Using the “self driving car (SDC)” as a case study, the speaker talks about the many changes most of us probably never thought about on environment, ethics, usage, leisure time, living space, privacy, et al a SDC society will induce and look like by 2050. Do you really want these changes? Can you adapt to them? What laws/changes Society have to introduce so that we as well as the human civilization can safely and comfortably live in? what kind of research we better start doing now?

This is the human (biological) world, the physical  (environment) world, and the cyberworld (computer and IoT) intersect and come together. Government has responsibilities, Business and Academia can and must help.  Self-Driving car is only one of many examples we have to worry about.
